The GAPMINDER Foundation provides science-based insights that help us to understand complex relationships and make responsible decisions. It makes global development understandable, presents data in a lively way, and uses facts to combat distorted perception and “fake news”. It provides an inspiring perspective on our world and encourages reflection and rethinking.

Prof. em. Dr. Hannelore Daniel
Prof. em. Dr. Hannelore Daniel is a German nutrition scientist and former Chair of Nutrition Physiology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where she served until retirement.
She studied nutritional sciences at Justus Liebig University Giessen, obtained her PhD in 1982, and habilitation in 1989 in biochemistry of nutrition, followed by research stays in Glasgow and at the School of Medicine in Pittsburgh before being appointed full professor in Giessen (1992) and later moving to TUM (1998/1999).
Her research focuses on nutrient transport and the molecular regulation of metabolism and ageing, and she has published several hundred scientific papers; she is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and has received numerous awards, including the Bavarian order PRO MERITIS SCIENTIAE ET LITTERARUM and other high state honors.
